Throughout human history people have competed against each other in different forms of sport. People pit themselves against each other to define themselves, to try and rise to their full potential, and even to solve disputes between societies. These competitions have evolved along with humanity. Sports spectatorship has always been an integral part of this as well. For the ancient Olympics a truce was held throughout Greece so spectators and athletes could travel to the games. People identify with their teams, which creates a sense of community and excitement that is impossible to replicate.

Soccer is by far the most popular sport in the modern world. It captivates the hearts and minds of millions of people, from Mexico to Brazil to Nigeria to Korea. Fans are forced to wait in stadiums for hours while opposing sections disperse, yet intense rivalries still inspires riots and celebrations that shut down normal life. Wear the wrong shirt in Manchester on match day and you might start a fight. In Buenos Aires, there are neighborhoods that should be avoided wearing the wrong colors. The world cup is the most widely viewed event in the entire world. So with all this excitement, all this energy and allegiance, why is it so hard to catch a soccer game on television in the United States? It's a nation comprised of people from the entire world. Shouldn't there be a way to watch the world's most popular sport?

With satellite TV there is. Satellite offers a wealth of programming that can't be found anywhere else. There is better access to more exclusive packages of sports programming, allowing you to keep up with the UEFA Champions League, the Premiership, Serie A, and more. No longer will you have to miss watching Ronaldinho and Barcelona take on Bayern Munich. There are also packages covering the quickly improving MLS, featuring growing numbers of international stars and expanding rapidly in the United States. League changes have brought in international superstars like David Beckham, who joined the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007.

With today's high definition technology the picture on your screen of the game will also be better than ever. You might be able to pick out the actual panels on the ball as it's making its way downfield. With satellite access to more HD channels than any other form of television, you will have a gamewatching experience better than any other. The detailed picture available these days makes some commentators say that it's better to watch the game from home than the field!

What about those games that you can't see because of work or some obligation, but at the same time you feel you can't miss? After all, the time zone difference for many of those international games might mean that what you want to see is happening in the middle of night. Not to worry, modern DVR technology will allow you to preset your TV to record those high quality matches. Everything you want to see will be waiting for you to enjoy it at your pleasure. With satellite you not only can now catch the most important sports events, you can do it when it's convenient for you.

The Discovery Channel, on satellite TV, is home to a plethora of shows which investigate history, science, technology and humanity, among other things. It's all about discoveries, after all. One of its latest offerings Doing Da Vinci, which when you get past the many flavored title, is a treasure trove for those into ancient contraptions, inventions and gadgets. Any gearhead would be happy to do nothing more than lounge back and enjoy this delightful and intriguing show on a flat screen HD TV.

The appeal of this show is that it's got a modern edge. The team which has the pleasure of investigating Da Vinci's designs is a motley bunch; we have an engineer, a carpenter, a special effects designer and an industrial artist. Valek Sykes specializes in FX, he graduated from Temple University with honors and has worked on such films as Minority Report, and AI, among others. Jurgen Heiman has experience in several areas of filmmaking including camera, animation and special effects; born in Germany and raised in the states, Jurgen has worked with effects wizard gurus Rick Baker and David Allen. Bill Duggan is the show's host, while Flash Hopkins cofounded Burning Man, the largest art festival in the world. Dr. Jonathan Pevsner has a Ph.D in pharmacology and molecular sciences. He is considered a premier expert on the Renaissance man himself. Finally, Alan Bovinet is an innovator in new technology. The group spends their show time exploring Da Vinci's designs and making them come to life, in full scale glory.

This is a pretty interesting feat, even in this age of satellite TV and high definition pixels. As with most knowledge based shows, the possibility for blooming drama isn't great. Still the show is exciting. It's almost thrilling to see Da Vinci's sketches come to life, as they never have before. Plus, there's an added, technical twist, the team can only use materials that were available in Da Vinci's time. However, that doesn't mean they don't use computers or hydraulic lifts or power saws to aid them in their work.

As each show unfolds, the question becomes, will the thing really, actually work? Can Da Vinci's intricate designs hold their mettle? In the first episode, the team actually succeeds in making a wood and steel circular armored tank that is meant to fire cannons in every direction, using two small sketches from Da Vinci's notebook. It's hard to tell whether the contraption really would have worked, yet it does set your head spinning over the possibilities. Think what Leonardo could have designed in this day and age; what would he have done with HD technology, for instance?

The team's next projects include constructing a three story siege ladder, a scythe chariot, which is basically a chariot with deadly blades protruding from it, and a 15th century machine gun, which utilizes dangerous black powder. Watch and see if the team succeeds in their quest. This is definitely one show that you won't want to miss. Check out your satellite TV guide to find out when it airs.

Samsung LE40A558 P3 - 40'' Widescreen 1080P Full HD LCD TV - With Freeview

40'' LCD TV BLCK 30000:1 3 XHDMI IDTV
Customer Review: Great picture but poor sound quality
This FULL HD sceen (but no mpeg4 HD tuner) has really a great picture quality, but a poor sound quality and SAMSUNG doesn't have the best custumer service ever, there was no documentation at all (no user manual, no warranty card)with the screen so I called SAMCUNG and they didn't do anything, the only option they gave me to get the documentation was to return the screen and wait for a new one ....not too good isn't it ?
Customer Review: Superb.....Need I say more?
Having my old CRT smoking on a Saturday evening was not my ideal night in. A detailed comparison session into HD LCD televisions began. The Samsung ticked all the boxes so was ordered on the Sunday. Hughes Direct who were the cheapest by far e-mailed me to say that my new television would be delivered on Tuesday, I was impressed. Nothing though could prepare me for the TV itself. In under 5 minutes it was set up ready and with my upscaling DVD home theatre running Star Wars in THX I started to watch a film how it should be watched. The TV itself looks great with the shiny black frame taking pride of place in the lounge.Easy would be a large understatement on how the system was to set up. This is a great package, I recommend to everyone who is looking for a new LCD, buy this Samsung.

While shopping around for a Blu-Ray disc player, I read threw a string of reviews on some of the more popular models in the market and discovered there were a lot of buzz on the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blue-ray Disc Player. The Sony Blue-ray player has tones of favorable reviews all over the internet and is the best-selling model on many online stores such as Amazon.com.

Out of curiosity, I went to a store nearby to take a closer look at the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blue-ray Disc Player. The first thing I noticed about is was its new super slim and sleek design. It was much smaller than its predecessors with just over 2" in height and about 9" long. This is a big improvement over the previous models.

I brought some blu-ray movies and DVDs to test it out at the store to check out the image quality of the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blue-ray Disc Player. The start up time of the machine was quick and the visual quality is comparable, if not slightly better than my friend's Panasonic DMP-BD30k. I then tried playing one my DVDs on the blu-ray player and was completely blown away by the video quality. Because Sony's Blu-ray players run on 40 megabits per second, DVDs movies will automatically look better on this blu-ray machine.

Cinema movies are recorded at 24 frames per second and blu-ray movie formats are mastered at this rate. Because of this the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blue-ray Disc Player can output movies at1080/24p, giving you the best cinema-like experience possible.

The user interface and configurations of the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blue-ray Disc Player is similar to other Sony DVD players. The cable configurations are also very simple, where you can easily set up the machine within minutes.

Broadband television is a means of providing TV programs via the Internet. It is possible to view live terrestrial television channels, but it is more practical to us it to see programs that have already been transmitted, so avoiding the need to set your video recorder. To get Broadband T V you need a broadband connection and a computer or special set-top box.

Broadband Television is being hailed as the biggest change in the way we watch television since it was first invented. Over the coming years broadband television is expected to completely change home entertainment, it will allow viewers a vast choice from all over the world not just the programs they watch but how they watch them.

Broadband television has only become practical because of the huge growth of high-speed Internet connections. More than 50% of all connections to the Web now make use of broadband. Today's standard bandwidth of 2 MB would give an adequate service, but television industry experts say 8 to 10 MB is the minimum needed for a full broadband TV service.

There are two main types of service that are being developed, standard television channels that will replace the traditional services we have today, and video on demand, where views can choose programs from the service providers archives. Perhaps this will cut down on the level of repeats that are shown at present.

Apart from the need for greater bandwidth, the greatest stumbling block for broadband TV is thought to be the big film companies, the big studios seem to be reluctant to provide films and shows because they have concerns that it may affect revenues from DVD and foreign sales.

The major benefits of Broadband TV will be a much greater choice of programs, the possibility of more interactive services, potentially viewers will be able to direct their own programs choosing the camera angles etc that they want, and it will also enable people to make and transmit their own programs so opening up the possibility of local community television.

Toshiba 22AV615DB 22-inch Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV with Freeview - Black

What about a good reason to get a 1080p LCD TV ?

First of all, what IS a 1080p panel? The panel or screen display is what you are watching and it is built up of pixels or PICture ELements. Or, PIX. ELS. That is where the name comes from.

  • OK here's the thing, the pixel count determines whether it can display a 1080p picture in native mode inside LCD tvs.
  • Why? The 1080p panel has a fixed pixel number of 2,073,000 pixels and can only display in that format, so everything that doesn't fit the panel must be processed or expanded to fit.

This is how any LCD TV or any digital flat panel tv, like Plasma HDTV, with a fixed number of pixels works.
  • A 1080i (With lines) picture is fed to the processor inside the TV, and becomes 1080p (No lines), simply by adding the lines together. This is called Upconverting or upscaling, or expanding the video signal.
  • What a computer does with all types of files, it can "Zip" and "Unzip" them. Except when video files are zipped, or Downconverted, they don't appear to lose quality. But when they are unzipped, or Upconverted, they may appear to lose a LOT.
  • This is because the imperfections of a lower resolution signal are expanded along with the good stuff. On the other hand, the apparent quality of a DVD is improved by removing the lines, a major improvement for any signal. Remember here, we are talking about streaming video files, to borrow a computer term.

A Real 1080p picture or signal can only come from a Blu-Ray disc player or a PS3, or an Upconverting DVD player, at the moment, but more options will become available as new technologies are created. And it looks great on a 1080p panel.
  • The signal is displayed just as it comes from the player at 1080p, via a HDMI cable, and this is the easiest to use cable option currently for 1080p connection.
  • Any other signal like Free To Air Broadcasts which are either 720p (No Lines) or 1080i (Lines) will be upconverted or kind of "Unzipped" in the built in video processing hardware inside the HDTV set, to 1080p.
  • Naturally the quality of LCD panel and the quality of video hardware will mean the best results. See "10 Bit" below.

This leads to a special case of cheaper sets being sold with lcd flat panel types which have an 8 bit or 6 bit panel and corresponding processing hardware. Now when these sets have a 6 or 8 bit panel, for very involved reasons, you can almost bet that it will be a fast panel. Simply because the math that the circuitry needs to perform on the video signal is easier, and faster, so takes less time. These are usually smaller screen sizes usually less than 26", and it is also possible that it is a panel originally designed for computer display.
  • Which explains the weird screen resolutions like 1440, 1280, etc in advertisements. Avoid these types of screens unless you are using it for a PC. Although some look good with a PC, and bad with TV, some are bad with both. Meaning cheaper, no name brands.
  • On the other hand, 10 bit panels can be made as fast using new technology, and they will have to be much higher quality, because generally they are made only by a few well known manufacturers.
  • Only a select group of manufacturers actually make their own glass for lcd flat panels.
  • How To Pick An LCD TV that contains a cheap panel? A sure fire method is:
  • Stand close to the screen and either look down at the screen, or look up at the screen from below.
  • If the picture changes color or becomes negative, bingo. Don't buy it.

10 bit lcd flat panels are more than fast enough to handle the display of 1080p video signals and 10 bit video processing is also much higher quality, better for movies etc.
  • That being said, surprisingly one of the best panels to get if you are a sports nut is 720p. It is also cheaper then 1080p. Video displayed on this type of panel is lower detail but better for high speed motion. This lower detail is not really noticeable unless you get a very big screen. Especially if you go for very large screen sizes, like 50", or larger, it will be very obvious that is 720p.
  • Any benefit of 720p will be canceled out with a LCD TV 1080p display with 120hz refresh. This technology is becoming very common now. It means that any benefits of 720p, namely for sports etc, are negated. We'll leave that subject for a later discussion.

The take home message from all of this is, 1080p is the display of choice for people who want to take advantage of HDTV to the maximum. But You must stick with known name brands when selecting the best lcd tv from the wide range of models with 1080p panels. That way, you ensure that you get at least a 10 bit panel and at minimum 10 bit video processing.
  • As an example, many LCD HDTV sets use 14 bit video processing and 10 Bit 1080p panels in their range.
  • A high quality LCD TV 1080p will reproduce TRUE HDTV, this will ensure you get an LCD TV contrast ratio that is at the highest level, and brightness levels and color gradations are the best possible and therefore ensuring quality picture reproduction.

Universal LCD Mount Bracket 10 - 24"

Universal LCD bracket 10 "-24 " Max wt 15kg for small flat screen tvs fixed

Flat Panel Televisions have forever changed the way we experience video at home. From the space you can save with their sleek designs to the excellent picture quality they deliver, Flat Panel TVs offer great benefits compared to the traditional tube televisions.

Flat Panels can be mounted to your wall because of their thin and lightweight design. They can also give you a more consistent picture across the screen from top to bottom because of their perfectly flat screens. You can get a much more accurate picture on a flat panel compare to a tube television because they are digital displays, so they work by illuminating a grid of pixels. These pixels are made up of three sub pixels, which are for the color red, blue, and green. Because of this, you can have millions, or even billions of possible colors that can be displayed. The biggest drawback of buying a flat panel TV is the price associated with it, though as with almost all electronics the price is rapidly falling.

Currently Flat Panel TVs come with either an LCD or a Plasma screen. Choosing the right type of flat panel can make a significant impact on your enjoyment of the TV. It is important to think about how you will be using the flat panel before making a purchasing decision.

Below you will find a few questions our product specialists recommend our customers to think about before purchasing a flat panel television.

How big of a screen size do I want? If you plan on getting a screen less than 40 inches, then LCD is your only flat panel option. This is because Plasma TVs generally are not created in screen sizes under 40 inches.

The screen size you get should depend upon how large the room you plan to place it in is and how far you plan to sit away from it. We recommend that you sit anywhere between 1 and 2 times the size of the screen. For example have a 48-inch (4 feet) TV; the optimal viewing distance would be between 6-10 feet away.

How bright is the room I plan on placing the flat panel in? If you plan on putting the flat panel in a bright room that doesn't have blinds, than you should consider getting an LCD flat panel as their screens are less reflective to light giving you less glare.

Will I be viewing things with static (still) images on the screen? Watching programs or playing video games with a static image on the screen (like a news ticker) for long periods of time can leave you vulnerable to burn-in with Plasma televisions. This isn't an issue for LCD TVs. Though, if you plan on mainly watching movies with no static images, you should consider a Plasma TV to get more life-like colors than most LCD TVs can offer.

Do I care about the energy efficiency of the flat panel? LCD Televisions are usually much more energy efficient compare to similar Plasma TVs.

Do I want rich, warm colors displayed on the screen? Plasma TVs give you richer and warmer colors than most LCD TVs do. This makes the colors displayed on the screen more life-like. Plasmas also give you much deeper black levels.

Both types of flat panels give you excellent picture quality, and give you a much better viewing experience than would a traditional tube television. However, as we've discussed above, one type will usually fit a persons needs better than another based upon that persons TV watching/using habits.

Definitions:

Burn-In: When a monitor is left for long periods of time with one stand-alone image, the image can permeate.

Premier AV HF0032 Plasma and LCD Glass TV Stand Upto 32"

An Hdtv antenna is the ticket to receive free Hdtv reception over the air. If you've decided to buy a Hdtv there is a low cost alternative to paying cable or satellite providers monthly for Hdtv broadcasts, a simple Hdtv antenna hookup is all that is required. You can receive crystal clear high definition local and network broadcasts. All you need is a ATSC tuner built in your new Hdtv or a external Hd tuner connected to your Hdtv to start getting free Hdtv over the air. If you presently own a good VHF/UHF antenna for indoors or out doors you may be able to use it. Digital tv uses the same antenna as analog tv, manufacturers have just labeled them HD to take advantage of the Hdtv buzz.

Your choices are a indoor Hdtv antenna and a outdoor Hdtv antenna. Some are amplified to increase signal quality and pickup further stations. There are different factors that will determine what Hdtv is best for you. The proximity of your house to a broadcast tower is the biggest one.

The closer you live to a broadcast tower the stronger a signal and better reception you will recieve. Those that live in an urban area or are surrounded by high buildings may get interference with the Hdtv broadcasts. If where you live prohibits you from installing an outdoor antenna there are still viable alternatives available.

Once it is decided which type of antenna will best suit your needs to receive free hdtv you may want to test it. Not in the store but in your home to see which Hdtv antenna provides the best signal. Turn the antenna in different directions to see where the best reception is. Why settle for poor reception when you can get crystal clear free Hdtv reception with just a little tweaking of your antenna?

You may have to get a indoor antenna if you can not install a antenna outdoors. These are usually optimized and powerful to receive signals indoors and there are a wide variety, some amplified (increase the strength of the signal) to fit your living conditions. There are Hdtv antenna's as low as $40.00 such as the Zenith ZHDTV1 Digital Indoor antenna and many others, that can provide great Hd reception indoors in most cases.

You will find a few Hdtv antenna designs to allow outdoor reception without you having to get on the roof. One is the Terk HD-TVS slim profile Hd tv antenna that you can install on a balcony, railing, outdoor wall, in the attic or on the roof and still receive great Hdtv pictures, even in the city.

Optimal reception will be received if you can remove all or as much interference as possible from the transmitter and your Hdtv antenna. This is the reason for the popularity of the outdoor antenna. The outdoor Hd tv antenna that is most popular is the medium directional antenna, because it's not too large and has characteristics that prevent or reduce interference. There are also large and small Hdtv antenna's that may fit your needs.

If you've sworn off paying for cable and satellite subscriptions and want crystal clear HDTV all you need to do is a little research, then get your Hdtv antenna. One good source for more infomation is the Consumers Electronics Association's, Antenna Web. After you have selected the right Hdtv antenna you can just connect directly to your Hdtv set (with ATSC tuner) or HD tuner and receive free Hdtv.

Get more information at HDTV Reviews on how to receive free Hdtv, selecting the right Hdtv antenna for your home and other Hdtv resources at http://www.hdtv.totalinfoguide.com.

High definition television is a great technology. Let's say you are watching a National Geographic special on a large, widescreen television hung from the opposite wall. The special is on the Sahara. In front of your eyes you see desert sand twirling in the air on the cusp of a dust storm; African antelopes vigorously butting horns; breathtaking ripples of dunes and jagged mountains. You not only see the desert, you can practically touch it and taste it. You are there. It's all thanks to the amazing visual quality of the image, something that high definition has the unique ability to provide.

Watching HDTV versus owning one, does not serve the same purpose per se. Owning one is a statement. It's a reflection on oneself, a way to fill out an image in the same way buying a certain brand of jeans does. First of all, the owner is more often than not a man, or at least a man was the driving force behind the purchase. Electronics are stereotypically the passions of the male half of the population, and this is a case that perpetuates the exhausted stereotype. Sports is another stereotypically male-dominated mania. The HDTV has perfectly wedded these two obsessions. Everyone knows that the best game-watching experience is to be right there, in the flesh, at the event; wouldn't the next best thing be to watch the game on a TV with the image so vivid that you're impulsively dodging sod clumps and sweat spray flying from the action? This is why technology is regarded as a beautiful thing.

So here we have two man-happy qualities, electronics and sports, rolled into one. By default, it is bound to give a man bragging rights if he owns a high definition TV; it's like having the prettiest girlfriend out of all your friends. And, as with such a girlfriend, part of the allure is showing it off. When people come over to visit, it's no coincidence if the HDTV is simply on, providing background for the environment. It's an eye piece; a work of art meant to draw the attention from those present in the room. By this token, the bigger it is, the better. Like a monumental portrait painting hanging in an entrance hall, the size of the screen projects an air of greatness and authority. The screen's thinness is another important quality; not only does a flat-screen television look sleek and streamlined, thereby giving it a feel of urbanity, but as the width of a TV decreases the price of it goes up. In other words, if you've got a paper-thin TV then you've got money to spend and you're not afraid to use it.

To own a high definition TV, then, is not simply to have an impressive piece of electronic equipment. It is a ticket to bump yourself up into the big leagues in the eyes of your friends, your colleagues, and, most importantly, yourself. Sounds like a good investment.

There's nothing better than DirectTV for top-notch television entertainment. Go with one of the great DirectTV packages available now. You'll have all the best sports, movies and HD programming at your fingertips!

The Viera doesn't have the very best plasma qualities - the blacks aren't quite as velvety as on some brands, and the contrast is just a little off - but Panasonic has some qualities that make up for it. For instance, they have a THX mode that creates the closest 3-D illusion you'll find on the market today. Overall, these televisions are among the very best on the market today.

Pioneer is a good brand to go with, though they are not quite up to the standards of the top-line high-def TVs because, surprisingly, of some programming issues. The Pioneer Kuro PDP-5020FD plasma TV has consistently ranked at the top of the heap for its exceptional black color and its great resolution and contrast. However, there are some issues; its color programming is a little off, which means not that you'll have bad color but that you'll have trouble tweaking things to suit yourself. Pioneer also prices its sets high in comparison to the rest of the market - not surprising when you consider its overall quality. If you don't mind a little fiddling, however, you will probably find the Pioneer sets to be superior even to the excellent Panasonic.

Samsung is emerging as a top player in both rear-projection DLP TVs and in LCD TVs. Their LN52A65 model has surprisingly deep black colors for an LCD TV, though the tradeoff may be the shiny screen that picks up a lot of glare in lit rooms. In their DLP department, the HL61A750 rear-projection model has, like the LCD model, surprisingly good blacks for a DLP TV, and everything else about the set performs at or above expected level for a good DLP. Of the two, the LCD TV gives superior performance, but the DLP set is an incredibly good value for what you get.

Sony does not do as well with plasma TVs as Panasonic, but it does very well with more digital technology like LCD and DLP. Their Bravia line of LCD TVs, like the Samsung models, have excellent black reproduction, and overall the sets are truly excellent for both television viewing and use as a monitor or gaming system. Oddly, the main problem with Bravias may be that they are TOO good; complaints are mostly about the picture being unnaturally smooth rather than the more usual problem with jittery images. Almost exactly the same goods and bads were reported about Sony's rear-projection DLPs (not surprising as the programming is similar), though the projection models were significantly cheaper.

You'll find that once you exit the top brand names that quality does begin to suffer, though prices come down a bit. For a television you want to have for years, though, is the couple of hundred dollars in savings really make it worth getting an inferior TV?

SNS Designs, Inc. owns a number of websites. They carry wide selection of High Def TV, Samgung LCD TV, Plasma TV. They offer the most popular in home theatre and a number of televisions that range from Sony, Pioneer to LG that everyone can afford.

August PC/Laptop USB Freeview/HDTV Receiver - Black - Vista Compatible

This AUGUST USB Freeview HDTV Receiver is a "magic wand" as it can turn your laptop or desktop computer to a high definition personal multimedia centre that allows you to watch over 40 free digital channels, listen to over 20 digital radio stations, record your favourite TV programmes on your hard drive or burn it onto a DVD.

It comes with a professional and user friendly software interface, mini antenna and remote control. All you need to do is to plug the device into a USB port of your computer, insert the CD and install the software by following the instructions. Your computer will start working immediately for you as a portable TV and recorder. You can watch TV programmes live or record onto your hard drive to watch later.

An indoor antenna is provided to watch Freeview in the areas where the signal is strong, an amplified antenna may improve reception and a rooftop aerial should be used in some regions. An aerial adaptor is also provided for you to connect this device to your roof top aerial.

Please note that there may be difficulty to receive freeview TV signal by the included portable antenna in some areas where the signal is not sufficiently strong. This is due to that the freeview service (www.freeview.co.uk) in the UK does not fully support portable TV antenna at present. The reception will be improving along with the progress of Digital Switchover Program(http://www.digitaluk.co.uk). A signal amplifier or booster may improve reception capability in regions where the signal is marginally strong. (please note that reception capability may also be affected by various factors such as proximity to freeview TV/digital radio transmitters, tall building structures, thick walls, ceilings and etc.). A rooftop TV aerial may be required to watch freeview channels in regions where the signal is insufficient for a portable antenna.
Customer Review: TELITLIKITIS
I use an external aerial and it still will not pull in all channels the picture freezes and sometimes will not show a picture at all, waste of money, you get what you pay for!
Customer Review: Laptop TV
After an initial attempt with the supplied "aerial" and software we plugged it into the roof aerial cable and used Windows Media Centre instead. The supplied software was unable to pick up any freeview channels which is odd as our old freeview box had about 60 channels before it died, so we tried Windows Media Centre and got about 60. It is an amazing bit of kit for the money. The picture quality is superb and we can now record stuff without pratting about with video tapes. As we couldn't use the software we couldn't use the remote so bought a cyberlink media player remote which works fine. The bedroom TV and video was rarely used so can now be disposed of and we can just use the laptop as and when required. Thank you August!

The latest great thing in home theater displays is the emergence of 1080p resolution displays. p stands for progressive, which means the screen fills all at once at 1/60th of a second, versus i for interlaced, which means every other line, then the other half of the full picture, each field displaying at 1/30th of a second.

At this time, there is no source for broadcast 1080p programming. Instead, we have 1080i: two interlaced fields make a frame, at 1/30th second for each field.

Finger it out!

Take your fingers and spread them apart. That's a crude example of interlaced. When you bring the hands together, you combine both fields and you get the whole picture (one frame). It happens fast enough that you don't notice the effect unless there's motion on the screen, then you might see a difference in the smoothness of the motion.

Progressive is all the fingers at once. 720p is fewer pixels, faster: 1/60th second per frame.

1080 = 1920 x 1080 pixels | 720 = 1280 x 720 pixels

Till recently, HDTVs were either 720p or 1080i. Most TV transmissions were 1080i. I believe ABC adopted 720p because it would have shown sports with better pictures. I also remember back when Panasonic Broadcast underwrote ABC (as 720p) - or at least Monday Night Football. Fox and ESPN now also do 720P. The others are 1080i.

The new 1080p sets don't have the front end circuitry to actually receive that resolution. But, again, nothing is transmitting that res anyway. What the advantage is, is how these sets show 1080i - they have the pixel count to do it without trouble. They deinterlace the transmission and present it full frame without throwing away any detail. A 720p set has to downconvert a 1080i signal. In that downconversion you can lose some detail.

(BUT) OH SAY CAN YOU SEE?

But there's a more important issue - can you really see the difference in resolution between 1080i and 1080p? Tests of visual acuity to determine the resolution required of a television transmission system by the BBC's J.O. Drewery and R. Salmon determined that at 9 feet, a 50 inch screen at 720p's resolution will give you all the resolution you can see! At 9 feet, a 56 incher needs 1080i to avoid seeing the pixel structure.
If you sit farther or closer, you may need more resolution.

1080i vs 720p: MOTION CHANGES EVERYTHING

Motion is different issue. If you want to see motion clearly, then live action 720p is what looks best, compared to 1080i. Here's why: the information content of 720p is about the same as 1080i, though what it lacks in spatial resolution, it makes up for in temporal resolution (because the picture is at 1/60th of a second, not 1/30th x 2.) On 1080i, this would show as flickered or jagged edges on bright horizontal objects (like in the background of a camera pan.)

The good news? As the retailers hawk 1080p, you might find a killer deal on a 720p set and not give up anything in what I'll call 'effective' picture quality to get it.

HDTVs with 1080p resolution comprise of 1,920x1,080 pixels, which is the current highest HDTV resolution available in the market. Televisions like, the best Plasma TVs, are now capable of displaying images with this highest resolution in high definition broadcasts. These TVs offer more than double the resolution than the other step-down models, which typically have 1,366x768, 1,280x720, or 1,024x768 matrix formations. HDTV TVs with any of these resolutions fall under 720p category.

Prices of 1080p HDTVs are dropping to a range which is becoming affordable to people. Under such circumstances, the big question is whether you should go for a 720p HDTV resolution, or if you should spend a bit more and get 1080p HDTV. With all the interest that is being generated by 1080p Plasma TVs, the best solution would be to go in for 720p. The reasoning is that, with your viewing material being primarily in standard definition DVD, and HDTV broadcast of sports, there is hardly any difference in viewing between 720p vs 1080p. The HD broadcasts from Fox, ESPN, and ABC are in native 720p, and the images look as good when viewed on a 720p HDTV resolution. The enhancement of resolution in a 1080p HDTV will not be noticed at all since the broadcast signals have limitations to 720p.

There are few prime time broadcasts from CBS, NBC, and other networks which are in 1080i, and quite often your 1080p HDTV has the potential to display the images slightly sharper than what you would find in a 720p HDTV. This difference is not much in a real life scenario, and could be hardly noticed, since the 1080i signals viewed with a 720p HDTV resolution would look good to a high degree. Never-the-less, if you sit close to view a 1080p Plasma TV, viewing a program being broadcast in 1080i, you might notice some difference. But from a higher viewing distance, the difference cannot be noticed. Ideally you would want to get the right screen size and display resolution for the distance you will be sitting at.

The real advantage that you can get out of 1080p HDTV resolution is that, you can get the full effect of viewing from your HD DVD, and Blue Ray which are the only native 1080p sources. The pictures from HD DVD and Blue Ray discs are displayed on your TV screen as full 1920x1080 per frame of video, and are best viewed with 1080p HDTV. If you are a home theater enthusiast, and you have a hobby to upgrade your home theater hardware, 1080p HDTV resolution would indeed add more to your entertainment. Of course, you get this added benefit only if you sit at the right distance.

The trend of 1080p HDTV in the market is growing, as the price keeps on falling. People are going in for 1080p HDTV resolution as it comes within the manageable price range. However, a large majority of consumers are still not convinced about purchasing 1080p HDTVs yet, and would like to wait until the broadcasts are available to make any sense in having 1080p HDTV resolution. The market is still offering its best deals on 720p HDTVs, and for consumers who rents DVDs, or watches Sunday sports and action movies the picture quality of a 720p HDTV may be enough.

If you want to read more about Plasma TV & HDTV Resolution and find out more important details as well as a visual comparison (side by side pictures) of 720p vs 1080p come and visit our site. We also maintain a top of best plasma TV models on the market. You will find that very valuable if you intend to buy a plasma TV and want to get the best one out there.

The Technology Behind LCD Televisions

Nowadays LCD TVs are a lot better and more improved than a few years back. That is because the technologies have been perfected. And don't think that you have to pay a fortune to get your hand on an LCD TV. Due to large competition the various brands have lowered the prices so that to attract customers. This, of course, is for the benefit of the consumers who can buy an LCD TV that is dramatically better than their old TV with a lot less money.

Different televisions offer different features. But don't think that you need all of them. Some of them you won't even know if they exist or not. Most of the consumers just need an LCD TV to watch movies, soaps or sports and not too many fancy, difficult-to-spell features. The price mainly has to do with the size of the screen. Most people turn their attention on 32" because they are efficient and do not cost much. There are others, though, who want more gadgetry and they tend to buy 42"or 50". But in order to buy that large TVs you should have enough place.

If you are on the market looking for an LCD TV make sure that you won't be misled. Things are not always as they seem. And that is the case with display models as well. Although, you see a bright picture on the stand that may not be the actual performance of the TV when you take it home. Check the settings carefully so that you won't buy something that will disappoint you.

Another key factor that you need to check is the high definition potential of the television. There are the televisions that are advertised as HD ready. But you know better than that. Although, their performance is good enough it is not the best. For high definition to have the maximum effects the TV should have Full HD or else 1080p.

Also, there are a few things that you need to know about connectivity. What you get is the HDMI ports, and you can be thankful if you get three and OK with two. Also, there are one or two scart sockets to connect other devices, as well.

To conclude, LCD TVs have improved a lot over the past few years and the development will certainly not end here.

Black Tilting Wall Mount Bracket for Samsung LN-T3232H LCD 32 inch HDTV TV

Our Wall Mounts are manufactured using durable steel. Included in the box are Wall Mount / Mounting Hardward / Manual

Did you know that there are ways that you can watch football games online? Personally, I like to catch up on things during my lunch break at work so that I don't miss anything. I love watching football online as well as other sports throughout the year. I am going to share with you how you, too, can watch football games online.

The first thing that you need to realize, is that in order to watch sports online, you will have to buy an online service that will give you access to all of the stations. The service that I use did cost me to join, but it was only a one-time fee. I was able to get access for right at $50, and have everything that I needed within a few minutes. I was watching football games online within minutes of joining.

There are a lot of different companies out on the Internet that offer the same service, promising thousands of channels. The bad thing is that some of them dont provide you with great service. A great service should include everything that you would ever need to watch TV on your computer. This includes all software, and any help if you need it.

Other than a great service paired up with the right software, you are set to watch football games online. Along with football games, you will be able to watch all kinds of sports from around the world, movies, and even TV shows. There really are tons of sports channels and movie channels to choose from.

I want to tell you up front, that in order to have the best service, you need to have a broadband internet connection. Dial-up is just too slow to keep up with the streaming video. I use the DSL that I have had in my house for years, and it works great.

With the service that I use, I am able to watch hundreds of channels online, at any time of the day. I love this thing at work on my lunch break. I get great technical support, and this system is really easy to use. It looks a lot like the TV Guide system that I had on my cable system.

So, if you want to watch football games online at any time, and want to see what I use, Click Here and be prepared to be amazed.

Customer Review: So far, so good. Finally took the plunge for an HD set.
I finally took the plunge for an HD set. At the time that I last set up my home theater - HD had _just_ come on market. Some early CRT-based HD sets were available, but the specification wasn't quite there, and certainly content availability was very low. The sets were _very_ expensive as well. So I simply opted for a high-end Standard Def. set from Sony. Things were fine for a long time. Then the LCD sets came on the market. Vendors wanted more money for what was, to my eyes, an inferior picture. CRT based sets were quickly discontinued - not necessarily because LCD technology was superior (it certainly wasn't) - but because such sets take much less floor space on a show room floor. The poor color representation, and pixelization, and motion blur of LCD sets turned me off, and Plasma wasn't much better. I just couldn't see spending more money for a worse picture, even if the set had physical advantages in terms of space, and power savings. Well, fast forward to today. After looking over several Samsung models - I ended up purchasing this set. It's by no means the current "best available" at this point - but considering the price and quality it's quite good. The black levels on this set are amazing (none of that dark gray = black). The color representation is excellent. And, so far, judder and motion blur seem acceptably low. Hi-definition sportscasts look amazing. NHL and NBA (currently in-season) look fantastic - the gleam of the ice or the court, or the reflections off the glass barriers is really something to see. The X-Box 360 looks fantastic in 1080p - and video games don't seem to have any real lag between the control and updates of on-screen action. The 3:2 pulldown, movie mode (24 fps) looks quite alright so far. Several DVDs (don't have the Blu-Ray yet) look almost Hi-Def when up-sampled (several guests have been amazed that it wasn't actually a Hi-Def source). All in all, pleasantly happy with this set, and looking forward to several years of viewing pleasure.
Customer Review: Get it while it lasts
Best LCD I've seen to date, bar none. I did my homework for quite sometime and found the 81F series to be a hidden gem. This being the 2007 LED backlit series, it was $1,000 cheaper than the 2008 Samsung LN46A950 (120Hz). Thankfully, I got mine in time: the 2009 Luxia series Samsungs LNXXB8000 (240Hz), LNXXB7000 and LNXXB6000 do not have local LED dimming! What's the point of having an LED backlight? Grab your A950 and 81F series while you can. Only one notable con: sound quality. Certainly not a deal breaker, but you'll definitely not want to depend on the internal speakers.

Double CD jewel cases are ideal for storing CDs and DVDs. These are two tray cases where two discs can be stored, one on each side of the flap of the case. A lot of DVD movies come in double CD jewel cases.

CD jewel cases are available in all shapes and sizes like fat ones that have sufficient space to accommodate a ?booklet? of CDs and slim ones that can only hold two CDs. They are also known by different names such as slimline double jewel case, assembled slim double jewel case, super jewel box 2-disc smart tray, chubby double CD jewel case, etc. There are also those that do not fit into normal racks that are available in the market for storing CDs.

Most of the double CD jewel cases are one of two types, the black or the clear tray. There are distinct advantages and disadvantage of each type. The advantage with the clear tray is that one can see through easily while the main advantage of the black clear tray is that it does not show marks and scratches on the surface too easily and it retains its elegance for a long time. What one goes in for is totally dependent on one's needs and preferences.

The slim versions of the double CD jewel cases can hold two CDs in a slim profile case with double-sided trays that can be black, transparent, or made of graphite. Quite a few of them have notched centerpieces for easy opening. A lot of manufacturers in the market sell bulk quantities of double CD jewel cases, and this can be a good business proposition for people.

A good search on the Internet can provide many options for someone wanting a double CD jewel case.

Customer Review: Very nice television...
Got this instead of the A550, which was well reviewed but criticized for its speakers. This one both looks great and sounds good as well. It's sound is nothing compared to my theater system, but I have no complaints at all on it. Picture is beautiful.

A home theater room shouldn't be set up as you normally would lay out a average den, it requires its own unique agenda if you hope to get that magical experience from each surround sound phenomenon you view and hear on your TV screen. Did you know that there are a handful of straight forward things you can do tonight to make the most of the audio and video of of your TV shows you are watching? The more of these that you can start right now... the bigger the superiority of the sound and picture of your existing system.

Number one: Set your room up as close as possible to the way a movie house is laid out. What do I mean? If you recall, all movie seats point toward the projector screen. There are no caddy corner or angled seats in a movie theater, are there? Have you thought about to reorganize your sofas and recliners to give you a perfect view of the TV?

Number two: Do not put your speakers on the floor! Did you know that the floor and carpeting will silence the quality of sound from your speakers. You would not believe how many people still leave their speakers on the floors! What can you do instead? Use speaker brackets or stick them on a bookshelf. In a perfect environment the speakers should be located just a few feet over your head. Just using this one suggestion will make a large difference.

Number Three: Your goal is to keep your front left and right satellites proportionally arranged on either side of your plasma TV. The center channel speakers should be placed either above or below your plasma. What about the rear speakers? The rear channel speakers should always be placed in the rear of your comfy chairs whether on the walls or in the ceiling. Do you have hard wood floors? Carpeting will add to the quality of your sound as well.

Number 4: Lighting. Think about this, the more light in the room... the more your video quality will be effected. Would you be interested in some ideas to combat this? You must be able to control the interior and the exterior lighting of the room. So first shut off all lights during your movie watching. Some remote controls can even close the lights automatically when the movie begins. Can you imagine that!

What can you do with exterior sunlight? Tyr using room darkening shades or heavy curtains that can be used to be closed over the windows while watching your favorite movie. If you do nothing else remember this... the darker your room the better. Some families even keep a flashlight handy to use for the bathroom breaks!

I told you that you don't have to spend any money to get a better experience from your current surround sound set up.

Why not try some of these home theater room suggestions the next time your family sits down to watch a movie? I believe you will notice a amazing difference in your home theater experience.

Make Your LCD TV Last For Years to Come!

Just a few years after its introduction to the mainstream market, LCD TVs have gained much trust from consumers. And they have good reason to trust this technology: these TVs give you the crispest picture, vivid images and remarkably vibrant colors. The greatest advantage of all of LCD TVs, cited by consumers and critics alike, is its virtually guaranteed long life.

If you have invested in an LCD TV, chances are you can expect it to last for years to come. These TVs have been made to last almost 60,000 hours. Some higher-end models may even last up to 80,000 models. As with any heavy-duty item, provided that you maintain your LCD TV to the best of your ability, you will rarely, if ever, run into serious problems.

How then do you take care of your LCD TV? Experts recommend that you keep in an appropriate room, away from the direct glare of the sunlight, in a position not to accessible to children, especially younger ones. Furthermore, if you do not get your TV maintained then you may experience some dimming in its light, and thus a decrease in the quality of your viewing experience. Thus it is recommended to redeem your warranty while it is available, even if any issues with your TV only seem minor.

To have an LCD TV in top-notch performance, invest in good-quality light sources. If the units you already have are not well-made, these units will be able to last much longer. A TV will always give you better performance if the light sources are of better quality. It is also recommended that you keep the contrast level of your LCD TV at a decent level; a level that is too high will wear out your light sources and subsequently cause your TV itself to wear out much more quickly.

Another key to keeping your LCD TV in top shape is a decent backlight. Be sure you have a warranty for your backlight, as without it you will not be able watch programs with correct lighting. Such a flaw renders your investment in an LCD to be quite useless.

Do remember to keep all this information in mind when buying an LCD TV, for just buying it is never the end of the story. Research for the warranty plan each retailer offers you, and avail it whenever the need be.

Samsung is often overlooked when you think of top grade Electronics with many people looking to Phillips, Sony or even Toshiba before they would by a Samsung product, but with the High Definition products they are putting out these days you cannot look past Samsung because of they great medium prices on top grade products.

Samsung has come out with there new up to date High Definition Television models and they are most definitely top of the line when you look at the product, price and overall flexibility of these new televisions. The Samsung LN52A860 Ultra-thin 52" 1080p LCD HDTV with 120Hz refresh rate is a great priced product as well. I have had this Samsung LN52A860 TV for 4 days so far, and I can't say enough positive about things about it. The set up was easy, and the amount of control you have for the picture settings is very in depth. The blue TOC (Touch of Color) is only just noticeable, it really looks black/graphite grey unless you look very closely.

The extra warranty of the Samsung LN52A860 (18 months instead of 12 months for the 850) is a nice perk. The good news is that the 'halo effect' that some owners of the 750 have fussed about is non-existent on the Samsung LN52A860.

I also love the spin stand because I did not wall mount this Samsung LN52A860 TV even though it is exceptionally thin. The picture show is stunning, and there are so many functions and features that I just have notgone through all of them yet.

Plugged in my HD cable box and new Blu-ray player via HDMI and everything has worked perfectly so far. On the flip side, there is a lag if you are using the little circle dial on the remote. Better off just clicking up, down, left, or right instead of spinning the dial around and waiting for the Samsung LN52A860 TV to react.

I don't have surround sound yet, but the Samsung LN52A860 TV speakers aren't too bad. Hard to rave about fake surround sound from tiny TV speakers, but that's expected. I didn't want a red or blue tv in my living room. With out getting technical this is a great set, cheaper than SONY and highly rated. You won't be dissapointed, I am so delighted with my purchase. Super thin and light weight. This unit has a very small bezel around it for a very clean look.

Overall, I would recommend this Samsung LN52A860 52" 1080p LCD HDTV without hesitation this to anyone looking for a new 1080p LCD TV. I am so impressed with this tv.
